OBA MUSTAPHA OLAWORE OLANIPEKUN ARIWAJOYE II (REIGNED 1969 TO 2010)

 

Mustapha Olawore Olanipekun Ariwajoye II the current Olofa of Offa became Olofa of Offa on 1st august 1969 and this was approved by government on 21st January 1970. He was presented with staff of office on 8th October 1971. He is the first Olofa who who has acquired western education. Lots of developments have been and are still being witnessed in Offa during his reign.

POLITICS:

The staff of office that was lost about 60 years before his becoming the Olofa was returned to Offa’s humor, offa continues to play a very prominent role in the political emancipation of the entire people of Kwara state, particularly the Yoruba group. Offa has emerged from a mere district headquarters under ilorin into local Government with headquarters at Offa town. The present executive chairman is Alhaji Abdulhraheem Jide Oyewumi.

His Royal highness the Olofa of Offa is presently a first class Oba and a member and secretary of the Kwara state traditional council. Olofa administers the town and is assisted by four high chiefs: Essa, Ojomu, Balogun and Sawo. Several honorary chiefs were also appointed to relate with Olofa on other sundry matters of interest and these include late chief J.S Olawoyin and the First Asiwaju of Offa and chief E.O Adesoye as Maye of Offa. Bobagunwa of Offa, Chief (DR) J.D Soleye AjimrOba of Offa, late Chief (Alhaji J.O.A Shittu, a former Deputy Governor of Kwara state.

SOCIAL INFRASTRUCTURE:

Several private health institutions including Maternities and dispensaries are now in place now in place; this in addition to Kwara state government owned specialist hospital. There are several road ds linking neighboring towns and villages, which facilitates the evacuation of farm produce to markets in the town. There is electricity supply from the national grid and there is pipe borne water supply. The introduction of vigilante services complement the efforts of the Nigerian police to take care of the security of lives and second wing of the Offa central mosque is also in progress s. Offa now has a mini stadium amusement part.

 SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT:

Several clubs and societies exist in Offa and they continue to contribute to the socio-cultural and economic growth of the town; the most prominent being the ODU whose present president. Chief E.O. Adesoye is the Maye of Offa. The ODU continues to play very prominent role in progress of Offa sons and daughters, both in public and private sectors of the Nigerian economy.

EDUCATION:

Offa has witnessed tremendous growth in the educational sector. Today, Offa has a federal polytechnic, a school of health Technology and several secondary and primary schools. Education has been a major factor apart from   politics that has brought Offa into limelight. Offa grammar school has offered education not only to Offa sons and daughters but to people from other parts of the country, Offa can beast of that least sixteen University Professors.  These include those retired and serving.

ECONOMY:

 In view of its location, Offa is witnessing a gradual but impressive industrial growth. Today, there are private industries located within Offa and they contribute to the economy of the country large. These include Okin biscuits, Okin foam, Olalomi carpets, Noble Breweries, Amukhude Iron Steel Company, etc. Various groups have emerged as unions to care of standardizing the price of goods and to check exorbitant prices. There cooperative society to cater for the financial needs of traders, etc. there are several small scale industries such as bakeries, block industries and sawmills. The economic growth and development of Offa has been widely boosted by the presence of Banks such as Union Bank, Bank of the North, Ibolo Community Bank etc. several hotels have been established which have also promoted the economic development of the town. Above all the Owode market remaining the hub of Offa economy and the present reconstruction taking place the markets future is assured.
