Two kidnap suspects were
arrested on Thursday in Oke-Ero Local Government Area of Kwara State, following
a gun duel between suspected kidnappers and the joint local vigilante/hunters
and the Nigeria Army.
DAILY POST gathered that
the gun duel happened near Ero-Dam in the local government area on Thursday.
The two suspects arrested
were identified as Bunmi, an indigene of Odo Owa and a Fulani man named Ramoni.
Both suspects according to
a top Civil Defence Corps official in Omu-Aran, Mr. A.O.Mobayo, have been
handed over to the Nigeria Police area command office at Omu-Aran, in Irepodun
Local Government Area of the state, for further investigation.
The joint covert operation,
DAILY POST further gathered, was sequel to the confessional statement of a
suspected kidnapper arrested in Ekiti by the state police command.
Again, from Oke-Ero, the
Divisional Officer of the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps, in Iloffa, Oguntifa
Felix, reported that there was a breakdown of law and order at about 1900hours
on Thursday, as angry members of the community attacked the Fulani community,
setting their houses including one hotel ablaze
A Toyota corolla car
belonging to a Fulani man, Alhaji Idowu, was also reportedly set ablaze by the
irate mob who attacked the community.
Reacting to the
development, the Wakili Fulani of Omu-aran, Abdullahi Ibrahim, alleged that
some hoodlums attacked Fulani properties in Omu-aran and Oke-Ero towns over
alleged reports of kidnap suspects arrested by Ekiti state police command, no life was lost in the incident,
houses and vehicles belonging to Fulani citizens were burnt by the irate mob in
the two towns.
When contacted, the
spokesman of the Kwara State Police Command, Mr Okasanmi Ajayi, said he would
get back to our correspondent, but could not up till the time of this report.
